Position Overview

JOB SUMMARY

The Sonography Specialist plays a critical role in utilizing ultrasound technology to conduct diagnostic procedures and tests that are essential for patient care. This position involves preparing and performing examinations while ensuring the utmost safety and effectiveness of the equipment used. The individual in this role will leverage their expertise to provide optimal care outcomes through patient interaction and technical proficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes ultrasound screenings, ensuring the equipment operates safely and delivers high-quality imaging results.
  • Analyzes imaging requests, collaborating with radiologists when clarification is needed or when complex cases arise.
  • Engages with patients to gather comprehensive medical histories and assess risk factors that may necessitate further examination.
  • Chooses suitable scanning techniques and imaging settings based on a thorough understanding of human anatomy and the specific capabilities of the imaging equipment.
  • Provides guidance to patients throughout their examinations, utilizing expertise and cultural sensitivity to explain procedures and alleviate concerns.
  • Mentors junior staff and assists in the orientation of new team members as required. Collaborates with colleagues to optimize daily workflow and patient management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • An associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a clinical imaging environment, with at least three (3) years specifically in ultrasound technology.
  • Certification as an Ultrasound/Sonography technologist from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, which can be demonstrated through education or professional experience.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex radiology orders.
  • Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Preferred

  • Additional certifications in specialized sonography areas, such as vascular technology (RVT), as recognized by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
