Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Child Mind Institute is on the lookout for a Clinical Research Supervisor to become a vital part of the Healthy Brain Network (HBN) research team. The HBN is a community-driven research initiative focused on gathering imaging, genetic, and phenotypic data from a diverse group of children and adolescents aged 5-21 across NYC. Participants who complete the study are provided with a complimentary diagnostic mental health and learning evaluation, which encompasses cognitive, academic, and language assessments.

In this role, reporting directly to the Operations Manager, HBN, you will be engaged in a full-time, non-exempt position at the HBN Harlem research center. This position is central to the integration of cross-functional research and clinical initiatives, which includes aiding in the formulation and execution of project plans, new data collection strategies, and quality assurance methodologies. The Clinical Research Supervisor will oversee daily data collection activities, ensuring compliance with study protocols, IRB regulations, and relevant guidelines. Occasionally, you will conduct study visits with research participants and their guardians, addressing any inquiries or concerns they may have. Additionally, you will supervise all research assistants at the data collection centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that site personnel are thoroughly trained in the execution of study procedures and policies related to the protection and confidentiality of human research participants.
  • Assist in the rollout of new research and clinical protocols within HBN.
  • Supervise all Research Assistants at the data collection center, including managing their schedules, overseeing their responsibilities, and conducting performance evaluations (training, reviews, disciplinary actions, etc.).
  • Oversee the screening and interview process for hiring new staff.
  • Regularly report on participant recruitment and enrollment activities to study leadership.
  • Maintain effective communication with study leadership and both internal and external collaborators.
  • Monitor the informed consent process with participants.
  • Contribute to the development of data collection and tracking tools.
  • Coordinate participant visits and testing procedures.
  • Lead weekly and monthly team meetings.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of study supplies.
  • Ensure all study records are retained in accordance with applicable IRB policies.
  • Report any unexpected issues and protocol deviations to study leadership and assist in preparing necessary reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field with at least two years of clinical research experience.
  • A minimum of one year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulations concerning human subject protection, Good Clinical Practice, and other clinical research guidelines is essential.
  • The candidate must be willing to work onsite with research participants and their guardians.
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are necessary.
  • Ability to provide compassionate and efficient support to participants and their families throughout their experience with HBN.
  • Capability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team as well as independently.
  • At least one year of programming experience (academic or professional) in one or more languages (Python, R) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
