The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aquatics Staff Member to join our team. As a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our members while providing high-quality aquatic programs.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure Member Safety: Vigilantly scan the water and pool deck areas, monitor activities, identify safety issues and concerns, enforce rules, and follow YMCA emergency procedures and protocols.
- Instruct Swimming Lessons: Teach basic and advanced stroke skills to youth members in a fun and engaging manner.
- Perform Rescue Actions: Respond to emergencies, administer first aid and CPR in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, and complete related reports as required.
- Prepare Lesson Plans: Develop engaging and challenging lesson plans that cater to the abilities and ages of the classes.
- Communicate Safety Rules: Consistently communicate and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas.
- Attend Training and Certification Courses: Participate in monthly, quarterly, and/or annual training and certification courses to maintain and enhance your skills.
- Build Positive Relationships: Foster effective and positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
- Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Value and promote diversity and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Certifications and Experience: Possess current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications (preferred). Have at least six months or more of related aquatics experience (preferred).
- Age and Physical Demands: Be at least 16 years old and able to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, and swimming for extended periods.
- Competitive Hourly Rate: Earn $17.48 to $19.48 per hour, depending on qualifications.
- Flexible Scheduling: Enjoy part-time hours, up to 25 hours per week.
