Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Good Samaritan Hospital. As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory technical duties, including patient testing and reporting, quality control, and equipment function checks and maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform patient testing, including patient preparation, specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing in a timely manner.
  • Operate computer functions to process test orders, including test ordering, printing labels, recording correct collection and receipt times, crediting/cancelling orders, resulting, and patient inquiry functions.
  • Troubleshoot orders and provide proper communication to clinicians as appropriate.
  • Prioritize work appropriately, with Stat testing performed within established guidelines.
  • Notify the appropriate party when a delay is anticipated as per protocol.
  • Record and report test results appropriately, calling the appropriate person with critical values in a timely manner.
  • Perform and record all required quality control testing, troubleshoot as necessary, and document all corrective action.
  • Perform instrument function checks and maintenance with proper documentation.
  • Effectively communicate with laboratory staff to assure effective and efficient operations.
  • Assist in the training of technologists/technicians.
  • Notify immediate supervisor of issues and concerns as appropriate.
  • Notify immediate supervisor when supply levels are low.
  • Assure the required number of continuing education credits are maintained annually.
  • Assure licensure is current and submit license renewals in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the Quality Control program activities, such as quality control review, equipment maintenance, and function checks. Serve as a resource for laboratory technicians as necessary.
Requirements
  • Valid New York State Department of Health license as a laboratory technologist.
  • Meet NYS personnel guidelines to function as a supervisor (a minimum of six years relevant work experience).
  • National registration preferred (NCA/ASCP).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully, effectively, and with discretion.
