About the Role

Fermilab's Infrastructure Services Division is seeking a skilled Maintenance Electrician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will perform electrical journeyman level predictive, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repairs on electrical distribution systems, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), motors, emergency generators, lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Respond to and complete service work orders by repairing, rebuilding, maintaining, servicing, and operating electrical distribution systems, MCCs, motors, emergency generators, lighting, and HVAC systems.
  • Recommend improvements in the operation and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Diagnose electrical failures on electrical equipment and systems, including MCCs, motors, generators, lighting, HVAC equipment, switches, transformers, and other electrical distribution systems components.
  • Complete emergency equipment repair work orders on electrical distribution systems, motors, emergency generators, lighting, and HVAC systems.
  • Document work activities for utilization in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Attend all necessary Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) and Facilities Engineering Services Section (FESS) training as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by reporting manager.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in direct digital control is advantageous.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts after 3 months of the 6-month probationary period.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to perform sustained physical labor at a moderate level.
  • Must meet Laboratory physical and educational requirements for Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH), Radiation Worker, Confined space, and High Noise Areas.
  • HVAC experience a plus.
  • May be required to interpret correct temperature and pressure relationships (superheat and sub-cooling) for AC/Refrigeration systems.
  • Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) a plus.
  • Journeyman Apprentice Training/Certification, Trade School or Military equivalent desirable.
  • High Voltage maintenance experience a plus.
  • NFPA 70 E training and/or knowledge.
  • DDC/PLC Controls and VFD experience a plus.
Working Conditions
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive lifting of moderate weight.
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, and stand for up to 4-hours per day.
  • Able and willing to work occasional overtime on short notice in response to operational and emergency requirements.
  • Able to legally operate cars and light trucks.
