Animal Care Operations Supervisor

Compensation: $40.47 Hourly
Note: The standard starting salary for this role is at the lower end of the stated pay range. A higher salary may be considered based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, as well as the City's step placement policy.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
This role is situated within the Shelter Program of the Animal Welfare Division under the Development Services Department. The primary responsibility is to oversee and coordinate the efforts of Animal Welfare Representatives who assist the public with lost pet inquiries, adoptions, and the intake of stray and surrendered animals.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Animal Welfare Supervisor operates within the Animal Welfare Division of the Development Services Department and reports to a direct supervisor. This role entails supervising and coordinating the tasks of staff engaged in animal care, welfare, control, facility upkeep, and customer service. Prior knowledge of relevant ordinances, laws, and regulations governing animal operations is essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this position. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily operations related to animal care and control, including adoptions, lost and found services, and educational outreach.
- Executing supervisory and administrative duties.
- Training and providing technical guidance to staff through verbal explanations and practical demonstrations of departmental policies and procedures.
- Evaluating operational effectiveness and suggesting improvements.
- Organizing and assigning tasks to subordinate staff.
- Ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and procedures.
- Engaging with citizens, city personnel, law enforcement, and external agencies to exchange information and resolve issues.
Performance is assessed based on technical judgment and overall effectiveness in adhering to governing laws and policies.
VETERANS PREFERENCE
Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who meet the qualifications for this position will receive preference. To qualify, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge prior to the vacancy announcement's closing date.
