Operating Engineer

The Operating Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment on all systems. This includes fire/life safety, mechanical, electrical, and hot water systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems.
- Responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions found while demonstrating the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.
- Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building.
- Responsible for keeping records of buildings rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
- High School diploma/GED required; military service, union training, vocational or college education is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must successfully pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screening process before beginning employment.
- Three (3)+ years of relevant work experience, preventive & corrective maintenance of commercial buildings/equipment.
- Need a strong expertise with MEP especially HVAC, any HVAC certifications and licenses are desirable.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) &/or Building Management System (BMS).
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
- Strong customer service skills.
This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:
- Lifting a minimum of 80 lbs.
- Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.
- Climbing a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
