Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Oncology Nurse to join our team at American Oncology Network, Inc. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership and clinical skills to oversee the delivery of high-quality patient care in our hematology/oncology clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the overall nursing care and functions of the clinic.
  • Coordinate the activities of the unit and direct, organize, and assign work to the nurses and pharmacy technicians.
  • Assess, monitor, and educate the nursing staff on patient care.
  • Institute emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Work in cooperation with all office departments to ensure continuity of patient care and smooth office flow.
  • Prepare schedules for clinic staff and ensure adequate coverage for increased patient schedules or staff time off.
  • Oversee the orientation of new nurses and pharmacy technicians and assess their skills for continued employment, further training, or release.
  • Responsible for the completion of incident reports, reaction forms, and drug waste forms.
  • Coordinate patient education classes and oversee packet assembly for orientation and patient education classes.
  • Act as a resource for staff regarding AON policies and procedures and communicate clinical policy, procedure, and regulatory changes to the nursing and pharmacy staff.
  • Understand and support clinical trials and ECOG and communicate with the Research Coordinator to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Coordinate special procedures and special chemotherapy treatments and ensure that medications and/or special equipment are in-house at the time of patient appointments.
  • Work with the purchasing department to ensure PAR levels are maintained and oversee ordering of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Ensure the timely rotation of medication and stock and maintain a safe and working order of company equipment.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with a valid state license.
  • Certification of OCN required within two years of employment.
  • At least two years of experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital.
  • Fluency in the English language and excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Current CPR certification and a valid driver's license in the resident state to travel to clinics.
