Key Responsibilities: The Special Education Resource Teacher is responsible for the implementation and management of special education programs and services in accordance with federal and state regulations, while ensuring alignment with district policies. This role involves providing tailored educational experiences and oversight for students with unique learning requirements in a nurturing and constructive environment that fosters the development of essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge to achieve curriculum benchmarks.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education (Preferred).
- Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate (or equivalent) with a special education endorsement in areas such as autism, cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, learning disabilities, physical education for students with disabilities, physical or other health impairment, speech/language impairment, and/or visual impairment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to draft and participate in METs, REEDs, and IEPs.
- Manage a caseload of no more than 23 students.
- Review student assessments (i.e., IEP, BIP/FBA, MDR, etc.) and other relevant documentation during Individual Educational Plan / Evaluation Review Team Meetings.
- Collaborate effectively with MTSS Coordinator, school administrators, educators, parents, and external agencies to share information and provide curriculum support.
Physical Demands:
- Capable of lifting up to 15 pounds to carry, push, or pull items.
- Ability to hear and speak for effective communication in person or via telephone.
- Reach above shoulder height to organize materials.
- Must be able to handle multiple demands from various individuals.
- Willingness to travel to different locations within the district as needed.
