Job Summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor I to join our team at the Gist State Jail in Beaumont, Texas. As a key member of our treatment team, you will provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders, helping them achieve a healthy and productive life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training to offenders
  • Interview, screen, and evaluate offenders for potential program participation
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans based on offender assessments
  • Maintain accurate records and compile data for reports and documentation
  • Implement follow-up and aftercare plans for offenders
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required
  • Current letter of registration as a Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A) as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals
  • Select applicants must obtain the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license or the Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) certification within five (5) years from the date of their registration as a Counselor Intern or CCJP-A
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management
  • Must successfully complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) and TDCJ approved annual in-service training requirements and background checks
