Genetics Counselor

About the Role

The Cancer Genetics Counselor is a key member of our team at MaineHealth, providing specialized education and support to patients and families affected by cancer. This is a full-time position that requires a Master's degree from an accredited Genetics Counseling training program and certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct family history analyses and pedigree maintenance to identify cancer risk factors.
• Coordinate data and chart organization to ensure accurate and timely patient care.
• Develop and write consultation and summary letters to patients, as well as follow up on patient questions and concerns.
• Collaborate with oncologists to provide informed consent and follow up on lab orders and insurance pre-approvals.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• Master's degree from an accredited Genetics Counseling training program.
• Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
• Experience in cancer genetics counseling preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer skills and public speaking.
