Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Technician responsible for executing tasks related to both aerial and underground construction, including the splicing of fiber optic cables and communication systems for outside plant fiber networks. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in splicing, testing, and repairing cables and wires, as well as maintaining accurate splicing diagrams and field notes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret technical documents, work orders, and engineering drawings to determine the sequence of tasks.
  • Perform repairs or splice in new lines as necessary to ensure project completion.
  • Install passive and active devices, enclosures, and termination panels.
  • Conduct testing of fiber optic lines to ensure balanced signals and continuity.
  • Pull fiber optic cables through existing ducts and conduits, utilizing various methods.
  • Optimize network nodes and manage node splits to enhance capacity.
  • Utilize testing equipment such as light meters and OTDRs effectively.
  • Safely operate bucket trucks or climb utility poles as required for cable placement.
  • Complete project documentation, including production sheets and verification of activation levels.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to protect customers and the public while complying with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain detailed splicing field notes and oversee activities at assigned work sites.
  • Familiarity with Fujikura splicing tools and materials is advantageous.
  • Conduct testing with OTDRs, Power Meters, and Light Sources, documenting results as per specifications.
  • Bond and ground fibers according to client requirements.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the company.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in fiber splicing within the telecom, utility, construction, or engineering sectors.
  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction practices for fiber cable, including splicing closures.
  • Knowledge of fiber color codes for single-mode and multimode fibers in outside plant networks.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to adapt to new technologies and methods.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong communication skills.
  • Physical capability to handle equipment such as ladders and hand tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and travel as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Position is production-based, focusing on total fiber spliced and closures.
  • Compliance with safety guidelines and personal protective equipment is essential.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $46,000 and up, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage, supplemental insurance through Aflac, and a 401K plan.
