The Acquisitions Librarian will play a crucial role in managing the licensing of electronic information resources and coordinating acquisitions workflows at Argonne National Laboratory. This position requires a strong understanding of library acquisitions, cataloging workflows, and procurement processes.
Key Responsibilities- Licensing and Acquisitions
- Evaluate, order, and coordinate payment for library content subscriptions and print materials in compliance with procurement policies.
- Review and manage content licenses to ensure they meet user needs and organizational standards.
- Actively contribute to the development of collection policies.
- Provide guidance on copyright, reuse permissions, article processing charges, transformative agreements, and publication strategies.
- Vendor Relations
- Liaise with vendors to ensure subscription content meets current needs.
- Conduct market analysis to identify new products and services for the library.
- Participate in evaluating vendors and identifying group purchasing opportunities.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare budget reports for library acquisitions and article processing charges.
- Develop expenditure forecasts based on historical data and industry trends.
- Respond to internal financial audit requests.
- To perform the essential functions of this position, successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
- Knowledge of publishing industry license agreements, library acquisitions, cataloging workflows, and procurement processes.
- Experience in vendor relationship management and negotiation.
- Skills to manage program and project budgets effectively.
- Professional communication skills for engaging with colleagues from varied functional backgrounds, particularly in customer service settings.
- Ability to lift cartons of materials up to 50 pounds and push heavy rolling carts.
- Work in a hybrid environment with two or more days on-site in a laboratory setting; with the ability to work fully onsite if preferred by the applicant.
- Experience in Ex Libris Alma LMS is preferred.
