Job Summary

We are seeking an innovative and results-oriented Senior Development Engineer to join our team. As a key team member, you will lead essential technical and engineering tasks, completing our projects with excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical and engineering work for Capital Power's development projects, including greenfield and brownfield renewable and flex-generation initiatives.
  • Support the Commercial department for upgrading and optimizing existing facilities.
  • Support the Strategy department for evaluating technical feasibility of new technology.
  • Coordinate with internal SMEs and external consulting resources to ensure preliminary engineering deliverables meet business needs and company standards.
  • Manage and finalize project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
  • Develop and coordinate the technical scope of work, applying internal resources or leading external consultants.
  • Support the preparation of RFP documents; including evaluation, negotiation, and contracting for procurement of project-specific major equipment and balance of plant contractors.
  • Recommend equipment selection and new concepts to improve performance and optimize costs.
  • Assist in planning, estimating, and scheduling of project deliverables.
  • Facilitate the creation of conceptual project layouts and support RFP responses.
  • Provide technical inputs to other departments to facilitate project approval, permitting, business case development, construction, and/or operations.
  • Support the Business Development and Commercial departments for due diligence on potential acquisition of in-progress projects or existing operational assets.
  • Support the development of Project Execution and Procurement plans.
  • Direct multi-discipline teams to complete technical inputs.
  • Foster relationships with customers, contractors, and third parties.
  • Provide recommendations to the Manager, Development Engineering, ensuring alignment with Capital Power's strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key partners.
  • Collaborate with the estimating and operations groups to develop capital estimates, risk assessments, and compliance reviews for development projects and acquisitions.
  • Ensure cross-functional accountability and authority practices are strictly followed to achieve efficient deliverables.
Requirements
  • Completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Arizona (or another state).
  • 5+ years of experience in the Power Generation industry - Thermal, Renewables, or Energy Storage.
  • Project Management or Project Coordination experience considered an asset.
  • Experience with acquisitions and development projects over $50 million.
  • Familiar with technical best practices, environmental permitting, laws, and regulations pertaining to power plant operations and construction.
  • Contract evaluation and negotiation of major equipment procurement.
