Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to join our team at Creston Community School District. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and other designated sites, while ensuring the well-being and safety of all passengers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a school vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, ensuring timely arrival and departure of students.
  • Pick up and discharge students at designated stops, maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
  • Transport students and staff on field trips to various locations, planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed, and ensuring compliance with district policies.
  • Maintain order and proper discipline of student passengers, adhering to district policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicles, reporting any needed mechanical repairs or maintenance.
  • Service buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil, and check for any issues or concerns.
  • Perform periodical safety drills as required by law, and complete necessary reports upon request.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition, adhering to district standards.
  • Complete periodic mileage and other reports, including passenger counts, to ensure accurate records.
  • Attend various meetings regarding safety, first aid, and training updates as required, to stay current with industry standards.
  • Attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Iowa Motor Vehicle and Education Codes as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children.
  • Ability to speak clearly and intelligibly in radio communications, ensuring effective communication with dispatch and other drivers.
  • Effectively handle emergency situations, parent complaints, and special bussing requests, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicles, promoting a positive and respectful environment.
  • Wash the bus as needed, maintaining a clean and safe vehicle for students.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger & airbrake endorsement and the Iowa School Bus Operator's permit.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions, read, and display thoroughness and cleanliness.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Standard vision requirements, vocal communication, and hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Occasional work in wet, humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
