Clinical Ophthalmic Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Orthoptist to join our team at The University of Kansas Health System. As an Orthoptist, you will play a critical role in providing direct patient care, performing ophthalmologic work-ups, and assisting in the coordination and technical education of fellows, residents, and orthoptic students.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care
- Perform standard intake work-ups, including visual acuity, medications, and summary of current complaint
- Document findings concisely and accurately
- Perform testing appropriate to service needs
- Consult with physicians as needed
- Communication
- Call patients and relay information when needed
- Follow through with messages, assignments, and responsibilities
- Communicate with other technical staff as needed
- Clinical Management & Leadership
- Serve as a role model while performing direct patient care and testing
- Suggest improvements in work areas and take an active role in working with others to achieve improvements
- Assist with maintaining and repairing equipment and prioritizing needs for replacements
- Education
- Orient new technical personnel and evaluate competency of learner
- Assist in the training of residents in technical procedures
- Suggest educational needs for technicians
- Research
- Attend and participate in seminars, conferences, and conventions
- Deliver papers concerning own and service research at meetings
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of related experience and education (1-3 years) working in a clinical setting with an Ophthalmologist
- National certification by the American Orthoptic Council as an Orthoptist (required within 1 year)
