Acute Care Registered Nurse

The Acute Care Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing services to patients, engaging in patient and family education, and providing leadership by collaborating effectively with all members of the healthcare team. This role involves executing a range of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to ensure optimal nursing care is administered when required. The overarching mission of UnityPoint Health is to deliver exceptional healthcare to those who are unwell or injured.
Full-time Registered Nurses - are expected to be on-call for 2-3 weeknights each month, work 1-2 late shifts monthly, and participate in a weekend on-call rotation every 13th weekend.
Part-time Registered Nurses - are required to be on-call for 1-2 weeknights each month, work 1 late shift monthly, and rotate on-call every 20th weekend.
Sign-On Bonus - A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for full-time new hires.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Excellence and Patient Care
*Deliver and coordinate nursing care to patients using the nursing process.
*Employ a holistic approach that considers physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, and safety factors relevant to the age of the patients in the designated service area.
*Provide clear explanations of procedures to patients and their families to ensure understanding.
*Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in planning and executing care in accordance with hospital policies and legal standards.
*Utilize sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination while assisting physicians with procedures requiring professional nursing skills.
*Assist in the transfer of critically ill patients and provide care for emergency room or ICU patients as staffing permits.
*Demonstrate proficiency in using medical equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen devices, and respirators.
*Prepare patients and families for special procedures and conduct patient education.
*Work collaboratively with all personnel to ensure the proper functioning of the Radiology Department, covering on-call duties and rotating shifts as necessary.
*Administer medications for pre-operative, sedation, or pain management and monitor patient conditions as prescribed, initiating appropriate interventions for adverse reactions.
*Exhibit initiative in enhancing quality and customer service.

*Perform urinary catheterization for adults and pediatrics as required.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements

Education:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a hospital setting or demonstrated clinical proficiency.
Experience in critical care, emergency room, or procedural nursing is advantageous.
Licensure/Certification:
Current, valid licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications or obtain them within six months of hire.
Valid driver's license required for work-related travel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking fluent English.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
