Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemist to lead our laboratory operations and ensure the accuracy and reliability of chemical analyses performed in support of our copper mining operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Lead and supervise a team of chemists and lab technicians in conducting chemical analyses of ore, concentrates, and other materials.
    • Ensure that all laboratory activities are performed in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner.
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Analytical Method Development and Validation
    • Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods for the quantification and characterization of elements and compounds relevant to copper mining operations.
    • Ensure that all methods meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve analytical issues, maintaining high levels of accuracy and precision.
  • Quality Control and Assurance
    • Establish and maintain quality control (QC) procedures to ensure the reliability and accuracy of all analytical results.
    • Perform regular QC checks, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory activities.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing accurate and timely reports to support operational decision-making.
    • Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and other stakeholders to provide insights and recommendations based on analytical results.
    • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Compliance and Safety
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
    • Implement and enforce laboratory safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits and training sessions.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes, adapting laboratory processes as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an analytical chemistry role, preferably within the mining or mineral processing industry.
  • Proven experience in developing and validating analytical methods for complex matrices.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing a team of chemists or lab technicians.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory instrumentation, including ICP-OES, AAS, XRF, and other relevant techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality control and assurance practices, including ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
