Position Overview

The City of New York is seeking an Eligibility Specialist II to join the Medical Assistance Program (MAP), focusing on Medicaid eligibility assessments. This role is crucial in ensuring that individuals and families receive the necessary health coverage in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of applications, including financial and legal documentation, as well as medical bills submitted by applicants and their representatives.
  • Perform financial calculations, obtain necessary clearance reports, and resolve discrepancies using various eligibility systems.
  • Assess eligibility for appropriate Medicaid coverage levels for both MAGI and Non-MAGI applicants and recipients.
  • Prepare and issue eligibility notifications to inform applicants and recipients about their case outcomes.
  • Engage with applicants and recipients through interviews and documentation reviews to determine Medicaid eligibility.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing calls from clients regarding Medicaid inquiries, including the Excess Income Program and related responsibilities.
  • Assist clients in understanding the eligibility criteria for the Excess Income Program.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $42,485 - $48,858

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM (1-hour lunch break)

Qualifications

  • Completion of 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university; or
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, along with one year of relevant full-time experience in areas such as:
    • Interviewing and gathering information for public assistance eligibility;
    • Customer service roles involving documentation and support;
    • Engagement with social service agencies or assisting individuals with health or financial issues.
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above requirements.

Experience that provides only incidental opportunities to perform the duties outlined is not acceptable for meeting the minimum qualifications.
