Key Responsibilities

  • Litigation Management: You will oversee your own litigation and arbitration cases, managing them from initial investigation through discovery and resolution, whether by mediation or trial. This includes interviewing witnesses, conducting depositions, and handling motions practice.
  • Agency Interactions: Manage agency charges, government audits, and respond to demand letters effectively.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide comprehensive advice on a wide range of employment issues, including wage and hour laws, benefits, hiring practices, performance management, internal investigations, and employee privacy matters.
  • Compliance Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Payroll, Operations, Risk, and Training departments to ensure compliance with employment laws, including conducting audits and developing corrective action plans.
  • Legislative Monitoring: Stay informed on federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, and case law relevant to employment matters, providing updates and recommendations as necessary.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required, subject to health advisories and restrictions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in employment law, with a focus on California wage and hour litigation.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution; must possess California Bar admission in good standing.
  • Extensive experience managing all aspects of employment litigation through trial/arbitration, with a solid understanding of relevant federal and state employment laws.
  • Experience in both class/collective actions and individual cases.
  • A self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, capable of working independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • A collaborative team player who can effectively manage legal staff and work with business partners.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong business acumen and practical judgment.
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humor that aligns with the company's culture.
  • A genuine passion for practicing law.
