About This Position

The Phoenix Water Services Department, a leading provider of potable water and wastewater services, seeks two experienced professionals to fill the Safety Section and Training Division Superintendent positions. These roles will play a critical part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our water and wastewater systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Section Superintendent: Provide oversight and direction to professional safety staff in managing worker health and safety, worker injury and illness reporting, and environmental compliance and reporting.
  • Training Division Superintendent: Oversee a team responsible for ADEQ Certification training, testing, and monitoring program; professional development and supervisory level classes, and safety-related training such as confined space and lock-out tag-out training.
Requirements
  • Three years of professional water industry experience, including two years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in a large water or wastewater treatment facility, industrial operation, or manufacturing facility.
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and review best management practices, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to observe, compare, and monitor data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
  • Independent decision-making skills with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in management, operation, and/or maintenance of a safety function or training function in a large water or wastewater treatment facility, industrial operation, or manufacturing facility.
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality written documents and developing training programs to expand technical knowledge of staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional-level presentations at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience managing staff in a union environment.
