Job Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician at Hancock Regional Hospital, you will play a vital role in assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. This is a full-time midday position with rotating weekends, requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and document patient data, conduct quality monitors, and complete assigned documentation.
  • Collect patient home medications and enter them into the EMAR system.
  • Fulfill physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts, and stock requisitions accurately.
  • Replenish medications in emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
  • Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately.
  • Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies.
  • Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration date.
  • Identify and replace outdated and unusable medications.
  • Restock medication and IV dispensing areas accurately.
  • Repackage bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately.
  • Pick up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas.
  • Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system accurately.
  • Enter charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
  • Generate reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
  • Answer the telephone and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication.

  • Maintain current technician certification and participate in ongoing education and training programs.
  • Be punctual and dependable, reporting to work as scheduled.
  • Maintain a neat, professional, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Perform work within specified time frames and adapt positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule.
  • Provide courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff members.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members and voice concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment consistent with training/academic background.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information.
  • Foster a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
  • Adhere to health-system policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Current pharmacy technician license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
