Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, parents, and school staff to ensure access to quality care for students.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide guidance, counseling, and health education to students, parents, and staff as required.
  • Communicate with parents, school personnel, physicians, and other stakeholders to meet student health needs.
  • Perform medical assessments for school employees as requested.
  • Deliver health education to students as needed.
  • Notify relevant parties of student injuries or illnesses in accordance with Board policy.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or administrators.
Equipment and Software:
  • Utilize medical equipment to provide healthcare services, including blood glucose monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, and sphygmomanometers.
  • Operate personal computers and software applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses, and injuries.
  • Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
  • Capacity to convey medical information to school staff or medical professionals to ensure proper care in the school setting.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic operations as needed for the position.
  • Ability to understand and apply personal computers and software applications.
  • Ability to problem-solve job-related issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and students with special needs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, and physicians, and coordinate work with principals, teachers, and others.
  • Ability to describe school health services provided, issues, and concerns regarding school health.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others.
Safety Requirements:
  • Adhere to professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including federal and state regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health standards.
  • Implement Board Policy regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding employee and student health care.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
  • Work in a standard school building environment.
  • Exposure to body secretions, blood-borne pathogens, medicine, and medicinal supplies, illnesses, and diseases.
