The Hematology and Medical Oncology unit features two 16-bed inpatient units, focusing on the comprehensive care of patients with hematological and oncological conditions. We cater to a diverse range of patient needs, from initial diagnosis and treatment to symptom management, pain control, long-term survivorship, and end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage fully in unit governance and adhere to the guidelines outlined in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter.
- Independently provide and coordinate patient care within a specialized clinical area.
- Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.
Our unit operates with a strong sense of teamwork, where nurses are considered integral partners in patient care alongside the medical team. This collaborative approach includes working closely with physicians, social workers, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.
During the day shift, our patient-to-nurse ratio is 3:1, allowing for meaningful interactions with patients and their families. Many of our staff members have built long-lasting relationships over years of working together.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate competence in the required skills and knowledge, actively participate in unit governance, and be accountable for the processes and outcomes of care provided to patients and families.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
- If you are completing your initial examination, testing must be completed within a specified timeframe after graduation.
