The Perioperative 101 program is designed with a learner-centered approach, providing specialized skills and knowledge in Perioperative nursing. Learning modules are delivered through lectures, demonstrations, and videos, with reinforcement in lab and clinical settings.

The educational experience includes classroom instruction, hands-on lab activities, and clinical practicums, typically scheduled Monday through Friday during daytime hours, though specific hours may vary.

Evaluation methods will encompass chapter post-tests, a final examination, skill demonstrations, and preceptor observations in clinical environments. Successful completion provides 41.7 continuing education contact hours.

Days/Hours:
Training occurs Monday through Friday, with varying hours. This training program is full-time (80 hours per two-week pay period) throughout its duration. Following placement as a Circulating RN, shifts will include evenings/nights and potentially rotating weekends.

Commitment:
A one-year commitment is required after completing orientation.

Cost:
The program utilizes AORN curriculum, with costs covered by M Health Fairview.

Responsibilities/Job Description:


The Operating Room RN serves as a circulating nurse, responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room.

The RN is expected to perform these duties in alignment with all policies, procedures, and professional practice standards. The RN coordinates care with healthcare team members and delegates responsibilities as appropriate. Additionally, training may be provided for scrubbing duties.

Qualifications:
A valid Minnesota RN license by the start date.


Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider is required at the time of application.

A strong desire and career goal to work as an RN in the Operating Room setting.


Current Fairview employees with a minimum of 6 months in their current position and a satisfactory performance record will be considered.

Preferred

Qualifications:
BSN, BAN, Master's degree in nursing or higher.

Previous experience in acute care nursing, surgical technology, or as an anesthesia aide.

Completion of a perioperative nursing course at a community or technical college.

At least one year of nursing experience.
