MedStar Health is seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in transverse and cross-sectional anatomical and pathological presentations, as well as technical operations associated with ultrasound modalities.

The Ultrasound Technologist, under general supervision, performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols, as requested by referring physicians and as directed by radiologists. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts ultrasound examinations in department or at bedside, including chest, abdomen, pelvis, small parts, carotids, neonatal heads, OB/GYN, trans-vaginal, and prostate, in accordance with prescribed protocols and policies on Universal Precautions, safety, and waste disposal.
  • Reports initial impressions to radiologists and reviews images before releasing patients, ensuring timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and technical workflow related to Radiology Information System (RIS), Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS), and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR).
  • Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and answers questions if asked, coordinating patient flow on assigned units to maximize productivity and minimize waiting times.
  • Prepares exam rooms at the beginning of each shift and between assigned cases, coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover, and assists with the upkeep of ultrasound equipment, adhering to all related safety requirements.
  • Assists the technical supervisor in revising, developing, and implementing lab policies, in-service programs, and continuing educational programs that enhance individual technologists' performance and skills.

Requirements:

  • Must have completed training in an approved Ultrasound program.
  • Must demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • 1-2 years of hospital-based experience preferred.
  • Skills in operating various models of ultrasound and instructing others in proper use preferred.
