Position Overview:


A Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer is tasked with overseeing and/or facilitating intricate database upgrade initiatives, including modification, installation, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of both new and existing system software solutions.

This role requires planning, installing, configuring, testing, implementing, and managing essential database products and software to support the organization's database architecture and operational requirements.

Specialized titles for this position may include, but are not limited to, DB2 Systems Engineer, IMS Systems Engineer, and ADABAS/NATURAL Systems Engineer.

Required Skills:


The Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer manages various database types, including hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS). Responsibilities include planning and upgrading database environments, ensuring database health, providing technical consulting for application and operations teams, and maintaining production database systems.

Key tasks involve conducting technical reviews of existing systems utilizing database management systems (DBMS) such as ADABAS, DB2, or IMS; evaluating and selecting new or optimizing existing DBMS software; collaborating with project development teams on database design recommendations; and developing logical and physical database designs.

Additional responsibilities include database capacity planning, implementing backup and recovery procedures, monitoring database performance and space, and managing database reorganizations, replication, compression, and partitioning.

Essential Technology Skills:

IBM Technologies:

Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, ASSEMBLER/COBOL/REXX, IBM FILE MANAGER, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in DB2, ADABAS, and MQ systems programming, along with Mainframe DBA skills and SMP/E knowledge is advantageous.

Experience Requirements:


A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Systems Programming/DBA roles is required, with at least three (3) years in a leadership capacity.

Preferred Experience:

7 years in ADABAS/NATURAL systems programming, 12 years in DB2 systems programming, and 5 years in ADABAS/DB2/MQ Database Administration are preferred. Familiarity with BMC DB2 Admin tools is also beneficial.

Educational Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in an IT-related or engineering discipline is mandatory.
