Position Overview:

This role entails a balanced allocation of responsibilities, with 40% dedicated to clinical practice and 60% to research initiatives. The Speech Therapy Services program at University Hospitals stands at the forefront of educational and community-oriented practices, delivering a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services focused on hearing, communication, balance, and swallowing disorders. The ideal candidate will establish an independent research agenda with opportunities for external funding and engage in collaborative research projects. This position emphasizes partnership with leadership to develop a leading center for swallowing care and research. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with the Laryngology division to enhance research efforts in dysphagia outcomes and population health studies. The role will also involve creating care pathways that prioritize value-based swallowing care for both inpatients and outpatients, integrating research with specialties such as radiology, speech, neurology, trauma, and ENT. Administrative and research leadership duties will be integral to this position. The selected candidate will be considered for an academic appointment at Case Western Reserve University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychological Sciences and School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead the creation of materials and tools essential for executing research studies.
  • Draft protocols, informed consent documents, and funding proposals.
  • Design and manage databases for research purposes.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including clinicians, medical staff, nurses, research assistants, and statisticians to ensure successful study execution.
  • Oversee and assess collected data, performing analyses as required.
  • Contribute to preliminary data for grant applications and assist in writing grant proposals, research papers, reports, reviews, and summaries.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research outcomes at conferences and scientific meetings.
  • Plan and conduct research in partnership with other investigators both on and off campus.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, critically analyze literature, and contribute to new initiatives.
  • Conduct patient evaluations and consultations, interpreting results effectively.
  • Communicate results to patients, families, and referral sources.
  • Develop treatment plans collaboratively with patients and their families.
  • Implement treatment plans and monitor patient progress continuously.
  • Document evaluation procedures, results, diagnoses, and recommendations thoroughly.
  • Provide mentorship in specialized areas of expertise.
  • Collaborate with physicians and treatment teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Engage in continuing education programs to maintain licensure and foster professional development.
Qualifications:
Education and Expertise:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field
  • Completion of Clinical Fellowship in Speech Language Pathology
Required Credentials, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • Eligibility for obtaining an Ohio Speech-Language Pathology license
  • Board certification as a specialist in swallowing (BCS-S) is preferred
Experience and Knowledge:
