The ideal candidate will have a strong background in educational and classic toys, with expertise in building and maintaining relationships with vendors. They must possess excellent analytical skills, product selection experience, and a proven track record of meeting financial targets in a growth-driven retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies to ensure timely deliveries and manage excess inventory.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with domestic and international vendors to secure exclusive private label and direct import items.
  • Lead price negotiations, product logistics, and vendor relations to drive business growth.
  • Oversee creative efforts, layouts, copy, positioning, and photography to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with the catalog production manager to meet creative deadlines and ensure seamless execution.
  • Work closely with QC, Customer Service, and warehouse teams to resolve customer issues and address high return products.
  • Communicate effectively with the Rebuyer and Inventory Control Manager to achieve timely deliveries and optimize inventory levels.
  • Partner with the internet team to maintain the title website and ensure online presence aligns with the catalog's vision.
  • Supervise and mentor the Merchandising Assistant, fostering a positive team atmosphere and promoting professional growth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, supplemented by two to four years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience as a merchant purchasing products domestically and internationally for a consumer retail company.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Knowledge of educational and classic toy market is highly desired.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for trade shows and business meetings.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match, will also be offered. Generous paid vacation time, sick leave, and holiday pay are also included.
