Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Actalent. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our farm operations by assisting in various areas, including hatchery, brooding, house management, egg processing, and egg pickup.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Upkeep: Maintain and upkeep company facilities and grounds, including mowing, trimming, pesticide and herbicide application, snow removal, and light maintenance.
  • Machinery Operation: Operate farm or site machinery such as skid steers, tractors, and forklifts.
  • Egg Sanitizing and Inspection: Operating egg sanitizing machines, collection tables, and conveyance systems.
  • Animal Care: Assist with egg receiving, sorting, setting, and candling in the hatchery. Monitor and maintain bird condition, feed, water, light, and ventilation systems.
  • Environmental and Health Testing: Perform environmental and health testing, including blood sampling and cloacal swabs.
  • Documentation and Housekeeping: Complete required documentation and perform housekeeping and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Disinfection Procedures: Disinfect supplies, equipment, and rooms according to SOP.
Requirements
  • Hard Skills: Operating machinery (skid steer, tractor, forklift), egg sanitizing and inspection, environmental and health testing, recordkeeping, disinfection procedures, and Fit Testing certification.
  • Soft Skills: Attention to detail, ability to follow SOPs, team collaboration, problem-solving, and time management.
