The Laboratory Services Specialist is responsible for conducting a variety of diagnostic tests within their designated areas. This role is crucial for delivering accurate chemical, microscopic, microbiological, blood bank, hematological, and serological analyses that aid in the identification and management of medical conditions.


Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a closely related discipline.

Professional Experience:

  • Prior experience as a Laboratory Services Specialist in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficient computer skills necessary for completing online applications and fulfilling pre-employment training requirements.
  • Must possess effective communication skills in English to ensure compliance with patient safety protocols.

Skills and Competencies:


  • Accountable for the precise examination and evaluation of laboratory tests conducted or supervised. This includes ongoing oversight of quality control measures, equipment upkeep, and specimen collection methods, along with collaboration with fellow laboratory personnel.
  • Responsible for the routine operation of laboratory equipment and instruments, including the validation of equipment performance through control materials and performance verifiers.
  • Engaged in quality control processes and corrective actions as necessary.
  • May assume leadership duties in the absence of the Laboratory Manager or Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Actively participates in departmental and hospital-wide committees, exemplifying outstanding communication skills.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Must hold a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
  • Must possess one of the following Nevada licenses or provide proof of application upon hire, obtaining Nevada licensure within six months of employment:
o If less than three years of CLS experience, must have the Nevada Medical Technologist license;

o If more than three years of CLS experience, must have the Nevada General Supervisor license or National exam (ASCP or AMT).

  • Identifies unusual conditions beyond expertise and seeks assistance from colleagues or supervisors.
  • Trains and instructs assigned personnel.
  • Responds promptly to service requests and follows through on commitments.
  • Stays informed on laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Participates in hospital and medical staff committees as assigned.
