Position Overview

The CVOR Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room, specifically within the cardiovascular specialty. This position requires a skilled individual who is dedicated to providing exceptional care during open heart procedures.

Certification Requirements
  • Essential Certifications: BLS, Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT, ND UAP
Job Details
  • Specialty: CVOR Tech
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Work Schedule: Guaranteed 32 hours/week, with a scheduled 40 hours/week
  • Shift Details: 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, focused on open heart cases
  • Call Requirements: Weeknight call 3-4 times per week, weekend call every other to every third weekend, rotating holidays
  • Supervision: Charge Nurse available for all shifts from 7 AM to 11 PM, with managerial support until 4 PM on weekdays
  • Shift Start Time: 6 AM for Open Heart Case Preparation
Job Requirements
  • MUST BE WILLING to cross-train into general OR if cardiovascular volumes are low
  • Minimum of 3 years of CVOR experience, including open heart surgeries, CABG, and valve procedures
  • Ability to perform first scrub duties
  • Call response time must be within 15 minutes
  • 8-hour reprieve shifts following on-call duties
Unit Information
  • Number of Operating Suites: 2 CVOR suites
  • Average Cases Per Day: 1-3
  • Common Procedures: Open heart surgeries (CABG, Valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotid surgeries, ION robotic cases, ECMO, Impella 5.5, Stryker towers
Orientation and Training
  • Unit-Specific Orientation: 4-5 days of unit-based orientation; 2 buddy call shifts for flexible orientation based on recent heart experience
  • Dress Code: Scrub color provided
Additional Information
  • MUST BE WILLING to cross-train to other OR specialties if cardiovascular volumes are low
  • Opportunity to pick up extra shifts for 1:1 patient sitting to supplement hours if case volume is low
  • This department fosters a family-oriented atmosphere
  • Radius Rule: 50 miles
  • Candidates must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit
  • Requests for time off must be submitted upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional requests will not be approved.
