Instructional Assistant

Join the Alabama Department of Education team as an Instructional Aide, providing essential support to teachers and students in a dynamic educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist teachers in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.
- Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
- Develop and implement special strategies to reinforce learning material or skills based on individual students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operate and maintain equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Keep bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
- Assist with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Assist students in the library or media center.
- Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
- Help students with their clothing.
- Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
- Assist with wash up and toilet routines.
- Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Salary in adherence and compliance with approved salary schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
