Job Overview

Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Public Works Director

Department: Public Works

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation and utilization of tools and equipment to carry out a variety of general maintenance tasks and special projects as mandated by the City.

Key Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are typical for this role. The absence of a specific duty does not exclude it from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Utilizes various tools and equipment to execute tasks related to the upkeep, maintenance, and servicing of the City’s buildings and grounds. The technician undertakes a broad range of assignments to ensure the preservation and longevity of the City’s properties.
  • Exhibits discretion in task execution and frequently employs independent judgment.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment used in grounds maintenance.
  • Monitors the condition of property grounds and rights-of-way to maintain an appealing appearance.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Comprehensive knowledge of general maintenance procedures for various repair and service requests.
  • Solid understanding of safety practices and accident prevention in the operation of tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to learn the operation of tools and equipment used by maintenance personnel. Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds is essential for performing the necessary tasks and projects. This includes equipment such as tractors, lawn mowers, landscaping tools, and various power tools.
  • Competence in the safe use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment utilized on the job.
  • Dependability and a strong work ethic are crucial for serving the internal customers and residents of the City.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Mayor, City Council, and professional staff members within City government.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, which includes a physical examination with drug screening and an oral interview.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of general maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
