Job Title: Travel Nurse RN Med Surg

Tact Staff is seeking a skilled Travel Nurse RN Med Surg to join our team in Coos Bay, Oregon.

About the Job

This is a 13-week travel nursing assignment with a 36-hour workweek and 12-hour shifts. The ideal candidate will have recent acute care hospital experience, with a focus on post-surgical care for patients with orthopedic, bariatric, urologic, or general surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide holistic care for post-operative patients, including those who have had orthopedic, bariatric, urologic, or general surgical procedures.
  • Assess patients, as appropriate to the scope of care the nurse will provide, including physical, psychosocial, learning needs, and barriers.
  • Establish nursing diagnoses based on results of assessments and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Plan care according to identified diagnoses and needs, updating the plan as necessary.
  • Implement individualized care, based on the nursing care plan and the nurse's role with the patient, including assisting with activities of daily living, medication administration, skin assessment/wound care, pain management, and operation/manipulation of biomedical and other patient care and testing equipment.
  • Assist the physician and other licensed, independent practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
  • Teach patients and their families about current illness, medical tests, medication, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention, and wellness promotion.
  • Provide appropriate assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel in order to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Provide interdisciplinary coordination and facilitation of overall care.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record.
Requirements
  • Recent (within 2 years) acute care hospital experience - REQUIRED
  • Recent post-surgical acute care experience with orthopedic (total joint replacement, spinal, trauma, and/or bariatric surgery patients) - REQUIRED

About the Facility

Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, Oregon offers comprehensive medical services for people of all ages. Health and wellness services in pediatrics, childbirth and obstetrics, gynecology and female health, cancer diagnosis and treatment in oncology, diabetes and kidney disease treatment, geriatric medicine and services for the elderly and disable, emergency medicine, and a full range of specialty medical services.

The hospital has an in-house Nurse Practitioner in Employee Health Department that sees only employees and their dependents.

Benefits include 16 hours unbillable OT, 1.25x BR, and the ability to cancel 4 shifts per 13 weeks.

The post-surgical unit has 30 beds, with 75% of patients having had a surgical procedure. The unit has a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio on day shift and 1:5 on nights. The charge nurse does not take a patient assignment, but rather helps the team with the flow of the unit, tasks, and discharge paperwork/appointments.

The unit sees patients from various surgical specialties, including orthopedic, general surgery, urology, otolaryngology, and podiatry.
