Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Operator I to join our team at Hulcher Services, Inc. As an Apprentice Operator I, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate heavy equipment, including tractor-trailers and escort vehicles.
  • Service and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and other equipment.
  • Carry, handle, and detach/attach heavy steel chains, blocks, and steel cables.
  • Climb on and crawl under derailed railroad cars and other equipment.
  • Clean, maintain, and set up equipment requiring the use of small and large tools.
  • Operate cutting torch and welding equipment.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools.
  • Lift up to 150 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Work at elevated heights on railroad cars, bridges, over water, or in water.
  • Learn and comply with company policies and procedures, and safety rules.
  • Learn hazardous materials handling and precautions.
  • Maintain required equipment service records.
  • Assure safekeeping and proper usage of company tools.
Requirements
  • High School degree preferred.
  • One plus years work experience in the same or related field.
  • Class A CDL.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Sunday on the job or possibly at division.
  • On call for 24 hours for derailments requiring immediate response.
  • 8-hours/day Monday through Friday; on call at other times for derailments requiring immediate response.
