At Huntsville Hospital Health System, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate LPN to join our team in the Short Stay Unit. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Job Summary:

The LPN Short Stay Unit Nurse will be responsible for delivering patient care using the nursing processes of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. This includes directing and guiding patient care activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. The ideal candidate will be a team player who can communicate effectively with all health team members to maintain the highest quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct thorough nursing assessments on new admissions, ensuring timely completion of all components as required by age-specific guidelines.
  2. Initiate and ensure medication reconciliation through the admission, transfer, and discharge process, as applicable.
  3. Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans based on identified problems and age-specific/developmental requirements.
  4. Collaborate and coordinate with treatment team members to provide quality patient care and maintain accurate and timely interdisciplinary plans of care.
  5. Continuously assess and document patient conditions, observations, interventions, and responses, including normal system reviews, behavioral, and age-specific factors.
  6. Provide patient and/or significant other education based on physical, behavioral, psychological development, and age-related factors, identifying barriers to learning.
  7. Perform venipuncture according to hospital policy, ensuring safe and effective procedures.
  8. Maintain safe medication administration practices, adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
  9. Adhere to policies and procedures, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and self.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of core measures and guidelines, meeting requirements.
  11. Apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills to ensure effective patient care.
  12. Take the initiative to obtain additional education related to scope of practice, serving as a preceptor and mentor.
  13. CPR and CPI certification required.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Alabama licensure or MSL.
  • Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
  • BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
