Job Description

Georgia State University's Perimeter College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in philosophy. This is a teaching-focused position, with 80% of the workload dedicated to instruction, 10% to service, and 10% to scholarly and creative activity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses in philosophy, including introductory classes, upper-level seminars, and specialized courses. They will also be expected to advise students, maintain a campus presence, and engage in service to the department, college, and university.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in philosophy or a related field is required for the assistant professor position, while a Ph.D. in philosophy and prior experience as an associate professor at a comparable institution are required for the associate professor position.
  • College teaching experience is preferred, with a strong track record of teaching effectiveness and student engagement.
  • Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform is also preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential for this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching a range of courses in philosophy, including introductory classes, upper-level seminars, and specialized courses.
  • Advising students and providing academic support.
  • Maintaining a campus presence and engaging in service to the department, college, and university.
  • Developing and implementing curriculum and course materials, including textbooks, syllabi, and assessments.
  • Participating in departmental and college-wide events, including conferences, workshops, and seminars.
