Role Summary:

The Recovery Support Advocate plays a crucial role in assisting individuals facing challenges related to substance use and mental health. This position focuses on fostering the development of essential skills and competencies that enable individuals to establish a personal support network and thrive in their community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver recovery support to individuals in need.
  • Facilitate skills development groups and other activities as directed.
  • Serve as a positive role model for clients.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to individuals as assigned.
  • Act as an advocate for families and individuals within program and agency initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing individual and family support and educational sessions.
  • Utilize personal and professional experiences to offer peer support.
  • Collaborate with case managers to connect individuals with necessary services.
  • Address the cultural and linguistic preferences of clients and stakeholders.
  • Support individuals in identifying and cultivating natural supports, as well as enhancing self-advocacy and self-efficacy skills.
  • Encourage individuals to recognize their strengths and celebrate their achievements to boost self-esteem and empowerment.
  • Promote awareness of available peer support services throughout the treatment process.
  • Assist individuals in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan when appropriate.
  • Document interactions, including one-on-one sessions and communications with families and individuals.
  • Provide peer support services to diverse populations as required.
  • Engage in case conferences as needed.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Preferred certification as a peer specialist recognized by the relevant certification board.

Educational Background:

  • Preferred degree in Addiction Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with two years of college education is mandatory.

Experience and Skills:

  • Must be a current or former recipient of substance abuse or mental health services, actively engaged in personal recovery for a minimum of two years.
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental health or substance use disorders is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with the local community is essential.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications, along with a recent Tuberculosis test, are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record systems is required.
  • Ability to provide a Good Moral Character Affidavit.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing and background checks as mandated.
