We are seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engineer/HVAC Mechanic to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of our heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as other utility systems.
Key Responsibilities- Operate, diagnose, inspect, repair, replace, service, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, including high- and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigeration machines, and other related systems.
- Perform skilled utilities work in the performance of a comprehensive heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system and water, storm drain, natural gas, and building automation.
- Operate and maintain plant computerized automation systems, electrical distribution systems, and other related equipment.
- Inspect College property and observe activities on College property for unsafe conditions, take appropriate action to correct any unsafe practice or condition, and report all other potential safety hazards to supervisor.
- Responsible for housekeeping, cleaning, and painting of respective areas and equipment.
- Responsible for snow and ice removal duties.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Associates in Applied Science Degree in Refrigeration, Air Condition, and Heating, or trade school equivalent.
- Five years of experience in mechanical maintenance and operation of HVAC and related equipment in a 750,000 plus sq. ft. facility with a mixed-use distribution.
- Skilled knowledge in high- and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigeration machines, plant water management, and energy management/building automation systems.
- Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Proficient in the following trades: electrical, refrigeration, and piping.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License.
- Elgin or Chicago Stationary Engineer License.
- Refrigeration License.
- Pool Operator License (obtain within one year of hire).
