About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Anesthesiology Physician to join our team at the Wilmington, DE VA Medical Center. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of patients and provide high-quality care in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and administer anesthesia care for patients with all anesthesia classifications.
  • Provide pain relief and maintenance or restoration of a stable condition during and immediately following a surgical procedure or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure.
  • Assess risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimize the condition of the patient prior to, during, and after surgery.
  • Assess, consult for, and prepare patients for anesthesia, including performance of history and physical examination.
  • Manage medical conditions of patients during the peri-operative period who are under physical and emotional stress.
  • Manage post-anesthetic recovery, including procedural pain.
  • Obtain informed consent in conformance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and administer general and regional anesthesia.
  • Insert temporary pacemakers for life-threatening arrhythmias.
  • Provide direction and clinical oversight related to the medical practice of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience

Active practice in all forms of anesthesiology.

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
