Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Locksmith Technician to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As a Locksmith Technician, you will be responsible for performing locksmith duties, operating and managing service vehicles, and maintaining all tools and equipment assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Regular and punctual attendance is required, including compliance with MPS sick leave policy.
- Respond in a timely manner to work requests.
- Operate and manage a service vehicle.
- Maintain all tools and equipment assigned.
- Duplicate or cut keys as needed.
- Install and repair locking systems.
- Re-key locks operating in MPS master keying system.
- Respond quickly to emergency requests from schools during the school day.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Good working knowledge of MPS policies and procedures.
- Good working knowledge of fire, ADA, and safety regulations and codes.
- Ability to resolve operational and/or key and locking concerns.
- Ability to follow directions, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors and other employees while performing job tasks.
- Must be able to work with employees of other MPS Departments to ensure that job tasks are completed.
- Be available, at the direction of supervisors, to assist with operational functions related to MPS in times of crisis or emergency.
- Be available, at the direction of supervisors, to assist other Security Technicians in the discharge of security related functions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment or material as needed.
- Ability to walk or stand 75% of a work shift.
- Ability to climb stairs as needed.
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and twist on a regular basis.
- Ability to withstand extreme environmental exposures, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Adequate strength, dexterity, and agility to perform assigned work tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience performing locksmith duties preferred.
- Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License.
- Must have a driving history that is MPS Insurable.
- Background clearance through FBI and ABI processes required.
- Subject to drug screening within MPS policy.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, and perform duties in a courteous manner, fostering a positive working relationship with entities we serve.
