Role Overview:
In this role, you will collaborate with various motorsports program teams and our racing partners to create advanced aerodynamics tools and methodologies. This includes utilizing computational techniques such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), conducting experimental assessments like wind tunnel tests, and performing on-track evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for motorsports vehicles, encompassing:
a. Conceptualization and geometry creation
b. Pre-processing, meshing, and setup
c. Solving, data validation, troubleshooting, and post-processing
d. Analysis and reporting
2. Conduct experimental evaluations of motorsports vehicles, which include:
a. Wind tunnel testing of scale models
b. Full-scale vehicle testing in wind tunnels and on racetracks
c. Test planning, operation, data validation, and analysis
3. Collaborate with the team to enhance our aerodynamics capabilities and methodologies.
4. Maintain effective communication with the Ford Performance team, external racing personnel, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
5. Deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines in a dynamic motorsports environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in motorsports aerodynamics within a top-tier series, with expertise in CFD and/or wind tunnel testing.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A strong passion for motorsports.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Over 3 years of experience in high-level motorsports aerodynamics, including CFD, wind tunnel testing, and interdisciplinary collaboration with engineering teams.
- Exceptional technical proficiency, communication, and organizational skills.
- High motivation and alignment with Ford's core values.
