Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team at the New York State Office of Mental Health. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, you will provide direct mental health counseling and psychotherapeutic treatment services to individuals and families served by the program to which you are assigned.

The tasks and activities performed by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor vary based on the agency, facility, program, and/or setting. Services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting risk assessment screenings and providing crisis intervention, stabilization, and follow-up services
  • Presenting clinical information and observations, and providing consultation and assistance to staff in other disciplines
  • Coordinating the care and treatment planning of one or more individuals served by the team

You will also participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, and function as a member of a treatment team. May supervise and train counseling interns and graduates, lower-level counselors, and/or support staff.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and families served by the program
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
