The Vascular Technician executes assigned responsibilities under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. This role requires a thorough understanding of surgical instruments and established protocols to ensure that Surgeons have the necessary sterile instruments and supplies throughout surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day for a Vascular Technician at Hackensack MeridianHealth involves:
- Completing tasks accurately within designated timeframes, ensuring timely and precise execution of patient-related activities.
- Communicating critical patient information and potential issues, including timely updates on changes in patient conditions, vital signs, and pain status.
- Adapting to reassignment needs to prioritize patient care, demonstrating flexibility in work schedules and room assignments.
- Providing safe and direct patient care, demonstrating proficiency in treatments and procedures as per established standards. This includes assisting with patient positioning, maintaining sterile technique during procedures, and supporting the physician's needs.
- Remaining composed and exercising sound judgment during emergency situations, ensuring patient safety and maintaining sterility as necessary.
- Engaging in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, demonstrating initiative and participation in departmental activities.
- Ensuring effective patient outcomes through adherence to ethical practices and compliance with health regulations and institutional policies.
- Performing additional duties and projects as assigned, adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Completion of an accredited ultrasound program.
- Experience in performing arterial duplex, ABI/PVR, carotid, venous, venous insufficiency, abdominal aorta, and renal ultrasounds.
- Capability to conduct general sonography.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of experience in vascular ultrasound.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
- ARDMS-RVT certification or eligibility to obtain.
