Job Overview

The Gymnastics Coach plays a pivotal role in the execution of a competitive gymnastics program under the guidance of the Gymnastics Coordinator. This position encompasses a variety of essential and supplementary functions as detailed below.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience in gymnastics is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and telephone communication skills are necessary.
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications must be obtained prior to the commencement of duties.
  • Additional certifications may be required as deemed appropriate.
Work Schedule

This role is classified as hourly, with an expected workload of approximately 3-20 hours per week. Work hours are subject to variation based on class schedules, practice times, and competition responsibilities. Evening and weekend availability is anticipated due to the nature of the gymnastics programs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead specific competitive levels as determined by the Gymnastics Coordinator.
  2. Conduct practices tailored to the assigned competitive level.
  3. Perform safety inspections and ensure a safe, organized gymnastics environment.
  4. Maintain all required certifications, including USAG.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Implement and uphold the District's safety program rules and guidelines.
  2. Support other areas within the recreation department as directed by supervisory staff.
  3. Undertake other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills

The Gymnastics Coach must effectively operate under the supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator and engage positively with participants, including children and adults. The ability to collaborate with staff and manage stressful situations is crucial. Recognizing and addressing safety hazards is a key responsibility.

Competencies

Applicants should possess the ability to read, write, and organize materials effectively. Supervisory skills and a strong safety awareness are essential.

Physical Requirements

The role requires the ability to lift, turn, and carry up to 40 pounds, including placing items on shelves at chest height. During special events, extended periods of work may be necessary.
