Position Overview
The Industrial Refrigeration Specialist is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and adjustment of refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air systems within designated areas. This role involves analyzing, calibrating, replacing, repairing, or overhauling all equipment and machinery in accordance with established protocols.
- 1st Shift - 7:00am-7:00pm
- 4 days on, 3 days off
- Diagnoses and rectifies issues within the refrigeration sector, including any refrigeration apparatus in the production area, such as air compressors.
- Operates and oversees all refrigeration systems.
- Interprets and comprehends manufacturers' manuals, preventative maintenance documentation, and safety regulations, completing necessary worksheets and machine checklists.
- Adjusts machinery to meet established operational standards.
- Provides guidance and training to junior operators and technicians.
- Independently addresses mechanical troubleshooting and repairs within the refrigeration department or related production equipment. Executes emergency shutdowns, startups, resets, and restarts of malfunctioning equipment to restore all systems to operational status.
- Adheres to personal protective equipment requirements and performs duties in compliance with company OSHA safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Possesses a thorough understanding of refrigerant expansion with pressure-temperature relationships.
- Capable of directing and training operators.
- Demonstrates proficiency with departmental PCs.
- Participates as a Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) team member following certification from Perdue.
- Identifies and resolves issues related to Refrigeration and Ammonia systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs Electrical Controls associated with Refrigeration and Ammonia Systems.
- Maintains cleanliness in all engine rooms, compressor rooms, and rooftop areas at all times.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Requirements
- 8+ years of experience. Certification as an Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) and Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) is mandatory.
- Certification from the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) is required.
- Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM), respirator training, confined space entry, and other safety protocols.
- Possession of personal tools and the ability to learn to use hand tools and industrial shop equipment.
- Ability to read and utilize dial gauges, micrometers, etc., for aligning motors, pumps, etc., with experience in ammonia or Freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and compressed air systems.
Strong reading and analytical skills are preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- In a plant setting, exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors, including metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- May encounter temperatures ranging from 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with varying humidity levels.
- May handle products at temperatures between 25 degrees and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposure to noise levels between 50 db and 110 db is possible.
- May be exposed to dust, feathers, and all chemicals utilized in poultry and food processing facilities.
- Must utilize protective and safety equipment as directed by the Company.
- Occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors at 10ppm and chlorine at less than 20 ppm.
- Able to stand for extended periods.
- Work may involve lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, bending, and pushing boxes on conveyor systems.
