Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist - Staff to join our team at Waterbury Hospital. As a key member of our pharmacy department, you will be responsible for providing advanced pharmaceutical care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate clinical pharmacy services and educational programs for the Department.
  • Provide tools and educational opportunities to enhance services provided by all staff members.
  • Participate on intra- and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
  • Serve as preceptor to pharmacy students and PGY-1 Pharmacy residents as assigned.
  • Participate in the development of institution-wide drug use policies.
  • Perform a variety of duties involving the receiving, storage, compounding and dispensing of medications and supplies.
  • Assess patient drug therapy, review drug interactions, incompatibilities, drug-induced adverse effects, and appropriate drug doses.
  • Document the care provided to patients.
  • Participate in supervision of technical staff.
Requirements
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with multiple levels of personnel/interdisciplinary teams, with tact and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems; keeping abreast of developments in software and technology.
  • Must be proficient in all aspects of compounding, preparing and dispensing drugs.
  • Must have working knowledge of federal and state laws as they pertain to drug procurement, storage, dispensing, etc.
  • Must be willing to maintain appropriate knowledge to provide state-of-the-art service.
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain a collaborative practice relationship with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Must be able to meet the needs of patients of all ages.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy.
  • Three to five years in-patient pharmacy experience or completed PGY1 residency is strongly preferred.
  • Must have current pharmacist license in State of Connecticut.
  • In addition to a PharmD and residency/fellowship, board certification in a pharmacy specialty within the first 3 years of employment is preferred.
