Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic II to join our team at the City of Petersburg, VA. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing major and minor repair and replacement work on buses, ensuring they are safe and reliable for our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform major and minor repair and replacement work on buses, including diesel driven equipment
  • Repair and overhaul brakes, ignition and fuel systems, and other critical components
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble air compressor, pumps, and related equipment
  • Perform diversified electrical work on diesel equipment, including installing batteries, terminals, and generators
  • Service air conditioning systems for heavy diesel equipment
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and promote safety in the workplace
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in repairing heavy diesel equipment
  • Ability to diagnose common defects in motors and bodies of buses
  • Ability to interpret work from sketches, diagrams, and installation and repair charts
  • Ability to keep records of repairs and service operations
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in repairing automotive, heavy diesel, or light power-driven equipment
  • Valid commercial driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
