About the Role

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Spacecraft Trajectory Optimization Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Vehicle Systems Division, you will be responsible for providing advanced trajectory analysis and optimization support for spacecraft, launch vehicles, and other aerospace systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply advanced techniques for solving flight mechanics, orbit mechanics, and astrodynamics problems
  • Perform trajectory simulation and performance optimization of spacecraft, launch vehicles, upper stages, missiles, hypersonic vehicles, and reentry vehicles
  • Implement optimization theory, including calculus of variations approaches and/or non-linear programming
  • Implement scripting techniques to perform parametric studies
  • Utilize numerical methods, including numerical integration, root-solving problems, and coordinate transformations
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience
  • Graduate-level coursework, research, and/or experience in orbital mechanics, optimal control, flight mechanics, trajectory modeling, and simulation
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including C, C++, Fortran, Python, or MATLAB
  • Working knowledge of optimization theory and experience with optimization tools
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance/Top Secret
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics
  • Graduate-level coursework, research, and/or experience in both orbit mechanics and optimal control
  • Proficiency in C and/or Fortran
  • Hold an active TS/SSBI (SCI) clearance
